The third chamber concert of the Essen Philharmonic promises a festive program to get you in the mood for Christmas. Baroque masterpieces will be performed, including the two festive Christmas concerts by the Italian composers Archangelo Corelli and Pietro Antonio Locatelli, which is characterized by a connection: Locatelli was a student of Corelli in Rome and was inspired by his teacher, especially in his Concerti grossi op. 1. Vivaldi's Concerto grosso in D minor, written around 1711, is also based on Corelli's style and, together with the other eleven concertos of his Opus 3, brought Vivaldi international renown for the first time. The instrumental program of the concert is interwoven with arias from Georg Friedrich Handel's operas "Alcina" and "Ariodante", performed by the Ukrainian mezzo-soprano Nataliia Kukhar, who is part of the Aalto Theater ensemble.
