In 1768, Joseph Haydn composed his first opera buffa, 'Lo Speziale' (The Pharmacist), for the opening of the Esterháza Palace Opera House. Carlo Goldoni provided the material. And for this turbulent comedy, in which three men vie for the pretty Grilletta, Haydn not only wrote witty and lively music. He even peppered his opera with Turkish sounds and rousing satirical arias!
Andreas Spering is opening the Brühler Haydn Festival with this musical treasure in a concert performance together with his Capella Augustina and an exquisite vocal quartet.
