For this production, Stefan Herheim was chosen as "Director of the Year 2007" by the renowned specialist magazine "Opernwelt". Highly praised by the national media, the work also became a hit with audiences. The myth of Don Juan comes from a popular legend that tells of events in one of Seville's monasteries. Several dramatic versions, including by Molina, Molière and Goldoni, preceded the collaboration between Lorenzo da Ponte and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart on their light-hearted drama "Don Giovanni" (premiered in 1787).
